Napoleon's conquering march into Italy in the late eighteenth century had far reaching effects. As a result of it, dramatic changes occurred not only in the social and political realms, but in the design and decoration of the country as well. Enrico Colle is professor of the History of Decorative Arts at the University of Bologna, and an expert on Italian furniture and period interiors. He has studied and catalogued the decorative art and furniture of Italy's major palaces and former royal residences. He prepared the catalog of Milan's Castello Sforzesco and the furniture collection of the Palazzo Pitti, and currently teaches at Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan.
