In the year 1922, when the late Earl of Carnarvon and Mr Howard Carter astonished the world by the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun and the rich treasure which it contained, no one could have imagined that the fiftieth anniversary of the event would be marked by an exhibition at the British Museum of some of the most important pieces which the two Englishmen, one as patron and the other as archaeologist, had brought to light. That it has happened is a practical expression of the goodwill and friendliness of the Egyptian nation towards this country. It is also a fulfilment of the desire embodied in the Cultural Convention signed in Cairo by the two countries in 1965. ...
