The drawings in this book encompass all periods of Raphael's career, including studies for Madonnas, for the frescos in the Stanza della segnatura in the Vatican, compisitions of figures in violent movement and, in contrast, beautiful red-chalk female nudes. All sixty-six drawings studied are reproduced in high-quality colour, and the text is supported by nearly a hundred comparative illustrations.
