Selim Abdullah [...] conserva la tensione esistenziale nella bellezza (quindi nella luce) del disegno, nella materialità e nella forma delle sue opere. La sua arte si bilancia sul crinale che sta tra l'inquietante e il glorioso - come se egli nell'atto artistico, nel processo di lavoro, per tutti noi, ma soprattutto per le vittime della Storia, potesse dare forma al momento in cui il destino è superato, o avrebbe potuto esser vinto. E sia pur solo per questo che, seduti insieme, come in un rituale arcaico, si tace e si aspetta: Attesa (2008) - un'attività che può essere più eroica di qualsiasi conquista, di qualsiasi impresa ardita generatrice di ripetuti disastri. Gleichzeitig bewahrt Selim Abdullah die existentielle Not in der Schönheit (mithin im Licht) der Gestaltung, in der Materialität und in der Ausformung seiner Werke. Seine Kunst balanciert auf dem Scheitelpunkt zwischen dem Erschreckenden und dem Herrlichen - so als würde er in der künstlerischen Handlung, im Werkprozess, für uns alle, insbersondere aber für die Opfer der Historie, den Moment gestalten, in dem das Schicksal überwunden wird, oder bezwungen werden könnte. Und sei es nur dadurch, dass man wie in einem archaischen Ritual gemeinsam sizt, schweigt und wartet: Attesa (Das Warten, 2008) - eine Tärigkeit, die heroischer sein kann als jede Eroberung, als jede immer wieder aufs Neue Unheil erzeugende Heldentat. Selim Abdullah [...] preserves the existential need in the beauty of the composition (hence in the light), in the materials and in the shaping of his work. His art is balanced on the cusp between the terrifying and the glorious - as though, via the artistic act, the creative process, he was shaping that moment when Fate would be overcome, could be defeated - on behalf of us all, but particularly for History's victims. Even if it just means that we sit together as if in an archaic ritual, silently waiting: Attesa (The Waiting, 2008) - an action that can be more heroic than any conquest, than any heroic deed that leads to new disasters over and over again.
