(All American Ads).
with an introduction by Willy Wilkerson.
From rationing to prosperity: advertising in America between war and reconstruction. World War II brought unprecedented prosperity and pride to the American people, and there is nothing that mirrors the new wave of consumerism and progress as much as the advertisements of that period. From Western Electric's communications tools (for "the modern battle") to Matson liners ("Discover a new life"), from Seagram whiskeys (for "the men who see beyond tomorrow") to the Hoover vacuum cleaner ("For all women proud of their home "), the wave of products and services for every occasion and whim was practically boundless. It's hard to believe that the manufacturer of your ultra-compact cell phone is the one that once advertised portable radios under the tagline "Motorola: More Enjoyment for Less", or that Electrolux had no qualms about employing Mandy, the company. robust black maid, to promote her latest, very quiet, refrigerator: "Master, be very quiet!". You'll also find some familiar-looking products between the pages of this book, which surprisingly haven't changed at all over time, such as juicy Dole pineapples and Campbell's canned soups!
