This encyclopedic, long-awaited catalogue raisonné of Paul Cezanne's paintings was researched and compiled over a lifetime by renowned art historian John Rewald, and prepared for publication by his assistant, Jayne Warman, and art dealer and historian Walter Feilchenfeldt. Separate plate and text volumes treat 954 paintings (up from Venturi's 839): the text volume includes 60 color reproductions, and more than 200 documentary photographs of the artist, his studio, friends, relations, and motifs. The essays by John Rewald are notable for their breadth of scholarship, coupled with an easily accessible, anecdotal style. The plate volume is organized chronologically, with black & white reproductions of all the paintings with their titles, dimensions, and dates. A unique and invaluable resource.
