The British Museum has an important but little-known collection of Mosan, English and German Romanesque champleve enamels. This illustrated catalogue discusses these rare survivals from the technical, historical and art-historical point of view, bringing them together with related examples form other collections. Analyses of the metals and glasses used by the enamellers have been provided by the British Museum Research Laboratory, and the illustrations include numerous x-rays showing methods of construction.
